Include the country code so it works abroad.
Quick styles
For placing the code on your own design (PNG, SVG, PDF). Put it on a light background.

How much of the code can get damaged or covered and still scan: L 7%, M 15%, Q 25%, H 30%. Higher adds more squares, so the code gets denser. Auto uses M, or H when you add a logo.
White border (quiet zone)
Scanners need clear space around the code — the standard is 4 squares wide. Pick Slim or None only if you’ll put the code on a light area with space around it.
How it works
- 1
Enter your number
With the country code, like +44 20 7946 0000. We flag a 0 that shouldn’t be there.
- 2
Check it
Scan the preview with your phone — it should offer to call exactly that number.

A call code is tiny, so it fits on vans, shop signs, flyers and tags.
What’s inside the code
A tel: link, like tel:+442079460000 — the format Apple recommends so the number is “recognized as a phone number properly” (Apple Tech Talks 2017, session 206). We strip spaces, dashes and brackets, and turn a leading 00 into +, so every phone reads it the same way. The phone shows the number and asks before calling — it never dials on its own.
It's also one of the smallest codes you can make: a full international number fits in a 25 × 25 grid in our tests, so it stays easy to scan even printed small.
Writing the number so it works from anywhere
Use the international format: +, the country code, then the number without its leading 0. That last part trips up a lot of people — the 0 at the start of a local number is only for calls within the country.
| Country | Local | In the QR code |
|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | 020 7946 0000 | +44 20 7946 0000 |
| Vietnam | 028 3822 1234 | +84 28 3822 1234 |
| Australia | 02 9876 5432 | +61 2 9876 5432 |
| Germany | 030 123456 | +49 30 123456 |
| India | 022 2345 6789 | +91 22 2345 6789 |
| United States | (415) 555-0100 | +1 415 555 0100 |
| Italy (exception) | 06 1234 5678 | +39 06 1234 5678 — the 0 stays |
If you type +84 028… or +44 020…, the form points it out and offers a one-tap fix. A local-format number like 028 3822 1234 still works for people calling from the same country, so we allow it — but if tourists or customers abroad might scan it, add the country code.
Where a call code helps
- Vehicles and signs — people don't have time to write down a number while walking past a van.
- Help points — building management, parking, lost and found, after-hours contacts.
- Older customers — one tap is easier than typing ten digits and getting one wrong.
- Delivery and booking — “Call to order” on a menu or flyer.
Want people to message instead of call? A WhatsApp code opens a chat with you, message ready to send.
Want them to save your number? A contact card code adds your name too.
Print it right
- Write the number next to the code as well. Some people will want to dial it themselves, and it shows what the code does.
- Add a label like “Scan to call” (use the Frame option) so people know it's a call, not a website.
- Test on a phone from another country if you can — it's the quickest way to catch a missing country code. Our QR code scanner also shows the exact number inside the code.
Questions people ask
No. It shows the number and the person taps to call.
Yes. With it, the number works from anywhere in the world. Drop the leading 0 of the local number after the country code (except in Italy).
Because +44 020… isn’t a valid number. The leading 0 is a domestic prefix and disappears once you add the country code: +44 20….
Keep it to the main number for the most reliable results, and print the extension next to the code.
Yes. Any number you can call works.
No. The code is made in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
